March 4, 2003 . Narragansett, RI Another very low tide at the Pier in Narragansett. On this day, the ice and snow had receded enough for us to get out and look around. Barnacle spat and Ascophyllum are covering most of the rocks high in the intertidal. Slides 2 and 3 show great patterns of salt left on rocks after some sort of scouring by the recent ice, and slide 4 shows what remains of the last snowstorm. In the low tidepools, Chondrus, Ulva, a filamentous red, and Littorina are common. In an area above the mean high-tide line, the ice persists, forming great patterns in thin sheets (slide 16) and interesting sculptural forms.
